Emergency Refuge
When the refuge is closed, an emergency section with a capacity of 12 people remains open. It is equipped with mattresses, blankets, an SOS radio, and a gas stove.
About high-mountain refuges in general
These accommodations are created to
facilitate hiking activities. The schedules and internal regulations are designed to favor people who carry out these activities. The services offered are usually more limited than those of a hostel.
You don’t need to be a member of any hiking center to use them, although it is recommended. People who stay there usually book half board (dinner, sleep, and breakfast) or full board (half board plus a picnic bag). Prices tend to be higher than in valley establishments.
The rooms only have mattresses and blankets. You must bring a sleeping bag or a sheet bag.
The garbage that you have brought up, you must take back down to the collection point in the valley. The refuge usually takes care of the waste it generates.
The services offered in each refuge can vary significantly. It depends on its location, the access, the structure of the building or the criteria of the manager himself.
About the Amitges refuge in particular
To reach the refuge, you may find snow from mid-October to mid-June. The bedrooms are large – 44 and 22 places – and with bunk beds. There are no small rooms. Bed assignment is done by the guards and not always the same group can sleep together.
Dinner is served in a single sitting at 7 pm. It consists of: the first course a soup or cream, the second a salad, a pasta or legume dish, the third meat, and finally, there are desserts that we try to be fruit in summer. The menu is unique, and you cannot choose the dishes. If you have any food intolerance, you should communicate it when making the reservation.
Breakfast is a buffet with hot drinks, bread, cookies, muffins, butter, jams, cheese, etc. It is served from 7 am to 8 am. The picnic bag contains a small sandwich, a tabbouleh (couscous salad), a piece of
fruit, an energy bar, a bag of nuts, and some candies.
For environmental reasons, we will give you a reusable cotton napkin that you can use during your route. WE DO NOT GIVE PAPER TOWELS for any meal.
At 10 pm we turn off the lights and silence is required.
Pets are not allowed inside the refuge, and we do not have any suitable space to accommodate them.
